SWAT standoff underway after suspect shoots at car, runs into South Shore residential building: CPD

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A shooting suspect is in a standoff with SWAT and Chicago police after he ran into a South Side residential building on Monday afternoon, CPD said.

Chicago police said a male suspect fired shots toward an occupied vehicle in the South Shore neighborhood's 7600-block of South Essex Avenue around 1:45 p.m.

The suspect then fled into a residential building near the Rebecca K. Crown Youth Center, police said.

Officers and SWAT responded and are on the scene.

Area Two detectives are investigating.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
