Deadly crash in Schaumburg closes lanes of I-290: Illinois State Police

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (WLS) -- A fatal crash has shut down part of Interstate 290 in Schaumburg Tuesday afternoon, Illinois State Police said.

The crash took place about 1:40 p.m. on westbound I-290 at Higgins Road, police said.

State police said there were four vehicles involved, and one person died on the scene.

Police did not immediately provide any additional information about possible injuries.

Four lanes of traffic are currently closed for an investigation.

Chopper 7 was over the scene about 4 p.m., and there was a large traffic backup.

A van appeared to be wedged underneath a semi.
