CHICAGO (WLS) -- Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan has officially filed an appeal of his conviction on federal corruption charges.
Madigan was convicted in February of using his political position for personal gain.
He was sentenced to serve seven-and-a-half years in prison back in June and was ordered to report to prison in October.
Earlier this month, he asked the judge to allow him to remain free while the appeals process plays out.
The judge has not ruled on that request.
