Girl abducted, held against her will and beaten; CPD officers honored

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Six Chicago police officers and detectives were honored Thursday morning, after working on a child abduction case.

The girl was abducted, held against her will and beaten over a two-day period.

She was able to escape and provide information to the officers who then arrested her alleged 17-year-old kidnapper.

He has now been charged with multiple offenses.

"The victim's parents also expressed their gratitude, praising the officers for their empathy," said Art Hannus, executive director of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.

The officers were named the February Officer of the Month award recipients.

It was Hannus' first event as executive director.

He praised longtime leader Phil Cline, who recently retired.
