COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) -- Students at Glenbrook South High School were mourning a classmate as they returned to class after spring break Monday.
The high school is making counselors and social workers available to students during this difficult time.
"You can tell the energy was down. A ton of the school knows her; she was a good person. You could hear word going around; it wasn't high energy like normal," student Emmett Kessler said.
Lilly Bova is remembered as being quiet and kind.
Bova, a 16-year-old sophomore, was shot and killed Saturday.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office said they were called to an apartment complex on Salem Walk in unincorporated Glenview.
Officers said they found the teen with a gunshot wound. First responders did CPR on Bova and took her to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where she later died.
"I feel like it's very unfortunate; it shouldn't have happened, especially since she is only 16. She had a lot of life to her; I send my condolences to her family," neighbor Claudia Loch said.
Following the tragedy, Principal Barbara Georges wrote in part: "Though Lilly was a quiet spirit, her teachers and those who knew her best said she loved deeply and was bright, positive and mature beyond her years. Her kind-hearted and optimistic nature will be sorely missed."
The Youth Peace & Justice Foundation is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office said this was an isolated incident and does not appear to pose a risk to the general public. They encourage anyone who may have information about the incident to contact Cook County sheriff's police detectives at 708-865-4896.
