1 killed after freight train hits car in NW Indiana

HOBART, Ind. (WLS) -- One person was killed when a freight train crashed into a car in northwest Indiana.

It happened just before 9 a.m. Wednesday near Third and Colorado streets in Hobart.

When firefighters arrived, the car was engulfed in flames.

Once they put the fire out, they found a body inside the vehicle.

So far, investigators have not been able to identify the victim.

They did not provide any additional information about the person killed.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.

"The Hobart Fire Department extends its deepest condolences and prayers to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time," officials said.
