CHICAGO (WLS) -- Here's a quick travel tip as we enter the unofficial kickoff to summer travel.
A new WalletHub survey shows the road ahead may cost you. Nearly six in 10 Americans tell financial experts at WalletHub that high gas prices and inflation are changing their travel plans, and more than half say they'll spend less this summer than last.
There are ways to save.
Time your gas stops. Prices can vary dramatically even within a few miles.
Use apps to compare and fill up away from expressways and tollways where prices may spike.
You can also book flights, hotels, or rental cars, using credit cards that offer rewards or book package deals through your credit cards or other services. They can shave hundreds off your trip.
Be flexible with your days if you can fly during the week.
Try to book one-way flights on different airlines which may be cheaper than a round-trip on the same airline.
Also, look at different airports in the same region of your destination.
