Driver dead after two I-88 crashes in Naperville, Illinois State Police say

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- A driver is dead after two west suburban crashes on Interstate 88 on Saturday evening, Illinois State Police said.

ISP responded to the crashes on westbound I-88 in Naperville just before 11 p.m.

A vehicle rear-ended another car, which had slowed down due to a previous crash near Winfield Road, ISP said.

The driver of the rear-ended car was pronounced dead on the scene. Their identity was not immediately released.

The roadway was shut down and reopened around 3:30 a.m.

What led up to the first crash was not immediately clear.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information about the crashes.
