MORTON GROVE, Ill. (WLS) -- A man is facing DUI and reckless homicide charges for allegedly hitting and killing an 89-year-old pedestrian in the north suburbs back in October, police said on Thursday.

Morton Grove police said officers responded to the crash in the 6800-block of Dempster Street just after 6 a.m. on Oct. 17.

Investigators believe Jesus Guzman, of Joliet, was driving a 2025 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound on Dempster Street when he hit Boris A. Nudelman, who was trying to cross the street while walking southbound.

Nudelman, of Skokie, was transported with serious injuries to Lutheran General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said as a result of their investigation, Guzman has been charged with reckless homicide with a motor vehicle and driving under the influence of drugs. He was also cited for speeding and having tinted front windows.

At Guzman's pretrial arraignment hearing on Friday, a judge denied the state's request to detain him.

Guzman was released on electronic monitoring and is due back in court on March 27.

Further information was not immediately available.
