MAPLE PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- Officials have identified the driver killed in a far west suburban police chase and shooting on Monday afternoon.

A Naperville police officer initially spotted a Honda, which was wanted in connection with a missing person who was experiencing a mental health crisis, near IL-59 and North Aurora Road, ISP said.

ISP said the Honda's driver brandished a gun and fled the scene. Warrenville police officers spotted the vehicle and chased the driver as he continued to brandish a gun.

ISP became involved in the chase as it moved into I-88 westbound. When the Honda crossed into DeKalb County, police deployed spike strips, stopping the Honda near Keslinger Road.

Both the driver and a Warrenville police officer fired shots, and the driver was hit by gunfire, ISP said. Officers tried to save the driver, but he was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The DeKalb County Coroner's Office on Tuesday identified the driver as 36-year-old Joseph Moreno, of Warrenville.

No officers were injured.

Chopper 7 was over the scene around 4:15 p.m. Monday and managed to get a shot of what appears to be a gun laying on the road next to the Honda.

ABC7 cameras also captured the Honda's broken passenger side window, and a Warrenville police car was towed away from the scene.

All westbound lanes were shut down for several hours but reopened around 7:30 p.m. Monday

The coroner's office and ISP are investigating.

ISP Division of Internal Investigation special agents are investigating ISP's involvement in the incident.

The ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 is investigating the Warrenville police officer's use of force.
