1 killed, 2 injured in Wonder Lake house explosion, fire

WONDER LAKE, Ill. (WLS) -- One person was killed and two others hospitalized after a house explosion in Wonder Lake Sunday night, authorities said.

Firefighters were called at about 7:50 p.m. to the 7400-block of Birch Drive for the reported house explosion.

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene to help extinguish the fire.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District said. Two people were transported to hospitals, with one needing to be airlifted.

Two neighboring homes were damaged by the fire and explosion.

The cause of the initial explosion is under investigation.
