17-year-old boy shot to death in Lansing, officials say

LANSING, Ill. (WLS) -- A teen boy died early Sunday morning after being shot in the south suburbs, officials said.

The Lake County Coroner's Office in Indiana said 17-year-old Ross Anthony Whitt was shot in the 2800-block of 189th Street in Lansing.

Whitt, a Lansing resident, was pronounced dead at Munster Community Hospital just after 12:40 a.m. His death has been ruled a homicide, the coroner's office said.

What led up to the shooting was not immediately clear.

Officials did not immediately provide further information.
