2 men shot, 1 fatally, while standing outside in Logan Square: police

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two men were shot, one fatally, while standing outside on the city's Northwest Side on Saturday night, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the Logan Square neighborhood's 1600-block of North Washtenaw Avenue just after 11 p.m.

A male suspect approached two men and open fire, striking both of them, police said.

One of the men, a 43-year-old, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His name was not immediately released.

The other man, a 33-year-old, was shot in the leg. He was taken to the same hospital in good condition.

The gunman fled the scene on foot.

Area Five detectives are investigating. Authorities did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.
