CHICAGO (WLS) -- An employee at an Amazon facility in Matteson was shot and killed by a food delivery driver Sunday night, a Matteson spokesperson said.
Police responded at about 10:54 p.m. to a report of shots fired at the Amazon facility at 7001 Vollmer Road.
Officers arrived and found an Amazon employee with multiple gunshot wounds. The employee was transported to Olympia Fields Hospital, which is commonly referred to as St. James Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
According to witnesses and surveillance footage, police said the victim and suspect, who was a food delivery driver, had an argument in the parking lot which turned into a physical altercation.
The delivery driver then shot the Amazon employee several times, police said.
The victim has been identified to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as 26-year-old Dylan Perkins.
An Amazon spokesperson said in a statement, "We're saddened by this senseless act of violence and are focused on supporting our employees and the victim's family during this difficult time. We're working with the Matteson Police Department in their active investigation."
Amazon said the employee was a third-party vendor.
Matteson police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are working to identify the suspect. They said there is no threat to the public.
