Metra train hits 10-year-old boy on bike near New Lenox, causing extensive delays

NEW LENOX, Ill. (WLS) -- A Metra train hit a 10-year-old boy on a bike in the south suburbs on Monday evening, causing extensive delays, officials said.

Metra said Rock Island inbound and outbound trains were temporarily stopped near New Lenox due to the collision involving an RID train.

A Metra spokesperson said the boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Silver Cross Hospital.

Train service has resumed with extensive delays, Metra said.

The crash is being investigated.
