Missing child dies after being found in pond, Lake in the Hills police say

LAKE IN THE HILLS, Ill. (WLS) -- A missing 7-year-old has died after being found in a suburban retention pond, Lake in the Hills police said

Police said the child was reported missing on Steeplechase Way at about 6 p.m.

The child was last seen by family.

The child was then found unresponsive in a nearby retention pond, police said.

Huntley first responders began life-saving measures and rushed the child to the hospital.

The child died at Northwest Medicine Huntley Hospital, police said.

Police said foul play is not suspected.

The child's identity has not been released.
