ARVADA, Colo. -- Two employees were fired from a Colorado Wendy's restaurant after a woman found a racist note inside her child's kids meal.
Manige Osowski says her daughter found a pack of playing cards inside her kids meal bag in lieu of a toy. Inside that pack of cards was a handwritten note which included the N-word.
"I had to explain to my child what the N-word means and she's never heard that term before," Osowski told KDVR-TV.
After an investigation, two employees were let go and the restaurant apologized to the family. But Osowski, who staged a protest outside the restaurant, said it was too little too late.
"My child is now aware of what racism is, and what that word means," Osowski says. "And it's because of this card."
"This is something that is not the culture of Wendy's. You know, we took this very seriously and we immediately investigated and identified the two employees that were involved. They no longer work for Wendy's," said Candis Goins, Wendy's. "They accepted our apology and we offered our condolences."
But the family said it won't accept an apology from Wendy's until the children receive a formal apology from the fast-food chain.
"I don't accept the apology because I am fully aware of what racism is in this country," Osowski said.
