Musil had been with the Dekalb County Sheriff's Office for five years.

She was an Army veteran and mother of three.

"I am disappointed that the law limited Judge Buick to sentencing Nathan Sweeney to only 14 years. He took the life of a police officer and the law should have allowed him to be punished more severely. A sentence of only 14 years for taking Christina's life is not justice and our legislature has failed the citizens of Illinois again. As Judge Buick correctly pointed out, Sweeney put the public at risk by repeatedly driving under the influence with a CDL," DeKalb County State's Attorney Riley Oncken said. "I hope that this sentence is a deterrent to those who would drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. I hope it is also an encouragement for those suffering from addition to seek help. Had Nathan Sweeney taken his sobriety more seriously and not made the choice to use drugs again, Christina Musil would not be dead and he would not be going to prison."
