Cop linked to Ofc. Rivera's death says he was assaulted in alleged bar attack

CHICAGO (WLS) -- There are new details surrounding assault accusations against the Chicago police officer who investigators say accidentally shot and killed his partner, CPD Officer Krystal Rivera, while both were responding to a call.

That officer is now accused of punching a female off-duty officer.

But he claims that he was the victim in the alleged assault outside a Wicker Park bar last week.

In a police report obtained by the ABC7 I-Team, the officer, who has since been relieved of his police powers, said the female off-duty officer was filming him with a cell phone inside the DSTRKT Bar and Grille.

The male officer told police that he went to confront the woman, saying he felt he was being harassed.

That is when the accused officer says he was punched by his girlfriend's mother.

ABC7 is not naming any of the officers involved because they are not charged with any crimes.

In a response to the I-Team, the officer's lawyer says he was stripped of his police powers "improperly."
