Hassan A. Moutassim of Jersey City allegedly drove his semitrailer recklessly on northbound I-57, resulting in the crashes.

After the last crash near Halsted Street, Moutassim got out of his truck, police said.

He reportedly pulled a driver out of a crashed vehicle and began beating him, police said.

He also tried to strangle him, according to police.

Moutassim was taken into custody, and the victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries.

He's been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery on a public way and aggravated battery-strangulation, police said.

He's being held, pending a court appearance.

The crash shut down I-57 Tuesday morning.
