VATICAN CITY -- Pope Leo XIV received a surprise on a ride through Saint Peter's Square in his Pope Mobile Wednesday.
The pope was given a box of pizza, straight from his hometown of the Chicago area.
The pizza was from Aurelio's in Chicago's south suburbs.
Pope Leo has said that it's his favorite spot, and was photographed at the pizza shop less than a year ago, when he was a cardinal.
There has been no word about what toppings were on the pie.
Joe Aurelio said in a statement, "It's great to see. The Pope is one of us, he knows where he came from, and we've already received so many blessings from his previous love and visits at Aurelio's so this is just another blessing to have him acknowledge our pizza at St. Peter's Square. We'd love to have him in again next time he is back home, and if anyone knows the people who made the sign and gave him the Aurelio's Pizza box, please message us on Instagram so we can personally thank them."
