Reports of 2 cars stolen from NW Indiana lead to chase, crash on Dan Ryan Expressway: police

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Reports of two stolen cars in northwest Indiana led to a police pursuit and crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway Monday morning.

Police say one of the cars, which was spotted and followed from the Gary area, crashed into another vehicle, which then hit a Lake County, Indiana police squad about 5 a.m. near 91st Street on Chicago's South Side.

The driver, a juvenile, ran from the scene, but was caught a short distance away, police said.

The second stolen vehicle got away.

An officer involved in the crash was checked out for wrist pain. There were no other reports of injuries, police said.

Several lanes were closed during an investigation.
