CHICAGO (WLS) -- An immersive experience from David Byrne has been extended by popular demand in Chicago.

"Theater of the Mind" is such a hit, that it's already extended into the summer by popular demand.

David Byrne, the former "Talking Heads" front man, created the experience along with Mala Gaonkar.

"There are elements that relate to my own life, things that have inspired scenes in the show, Byrne said.

"Each room, you find out things about your perception and your memory, and you come to some conclusions at the end that are maybe different than what you expected," Byrne explained. "You're learning about how we perceive the world, how we make our own identity, what we perceive, what we remember, the stories we tell ourselves."

When asked what "Talking Heads folks" would think about the production, Byrne said:

"They might go: 'where's the music, where's David?' I'm hoping they're open minded about that, I'm hoping the word gets out, might be word of mouth, of what it is, what kind of experience it is, that I'm not in it, that it's not musical," he said.

The Goodman Theatre is presenting the experience, but it's such a sprawling event, it's happening in the Reid Murdoch building in River North.

"Chicago has a great theater tradition, great actors. We had done it in Denver, a few years ago, and we were looking for somebody else who'd be interested in doing this and the Goodman reached out and we thought, we couldn't do better," Byrne said.

"Theatre of the Mind" will run through July 12.
