15-year-old boy killed in drive-by shooting on West Side: CPD

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A teenage boy who was shot to death on a West Side sidewalk on Friday afternoon has been identified.

Police said the drive-by shooting happened in the University Village neighborhood's 1300-block of West Grenshaw Street around 4:15 p.m.

A 15-year-old boy was standing on the sidewalk when a vehicle pulled up, and someone inside fired shots, police said.

The victim, shot in the chest and leg, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died.

The Cook County Medical Examiner identified the boy as John Thomas.

Area Three detectives are investigating.

Police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.
