Group shoots 13-year-old boy, tries to rob him at Washington Park home: police

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A group of suspects shot a teenage boy and tried to rob him at a South Side home on Monday evening, Chicago police said.

Police said a 13-year-old boy was in the back of a home in the Washington Park neighborhood's 5800-block of South Michigan Avenue around 7 p.m.

That's when three suspects approached the boy and tried to take his belongings, police said.

Police said one suspect took out a gun, hit the victim, and fired at least one shot, striking him in the ankle.

The suspects fled the scene, and the victim was transported to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.

Area detectives are investigating. Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
