Suspect fires into crowd, injuring teen and two men on South Side: CPD

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A suspect fired into a crowd on the South Side, injuring a teenager and two men on Friday night, Chicago police said.

Police said officers responded to the shooting in the city's West Englewood neighborhood near West 66th Street and South Wolcott Avenue just before 10:45 p.m.

Investigators believe someone took out a gun and fired into a group of people who were standing outside.

A 16-year-old boy, shot in the neck and body, self-transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

A 40-year-old man also self-transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center. He was listed in good condition with a gunshot wound to the hip.

The Chicago Fire Department transported another man, 28, to the same hospital in good condition. He was shot in the arm and foot.

No one is in custody, and officers recovered a gun from the scene.

Area One detectives are investigating.

Ald. Raymond Lopez issued a statement, saying, "Last night there was a shooting involving a group of teenagers congregating on the 6600 block of S Wolcott. While not directly within the 15th Ward, I have been in contact with our local 007 Police District regarding the shooting. An unknown offender opened fire upon the group, hitting multiple individuals. One remains in critical condition. It is believed this situation is an isolated incident. If more information becomes available, I will share it with the community. Anyone with information can contact my office or Area One detectives."
