CHICAGO (WLS) -- More than 3,000 participants plan to climb up the 103 floors of Willis Tower or hand-cycle the equivalent during the sixth annual SkyRise Chicago. All proceeds of the event will help provide quality clinical care and cutting-edge research for more than 50,000 Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago patients from around the world.
Maria E. Reese, M.D., RIC physician and medical co-director of SkyRise Chicago, and Chip Battoe, former RIC patient and SkyRise participant, came into our ABC 7 Eyewitness News studio to tell us about the climb. Battoe suffered a spinal cord injury at age 33 when a car collided with his scooter. He is conquering the stairs at Willis Tower for his second year in a row.
While the 2014 climb is sold out, you can still donate to support the RIC at www.SkyRiseChicago.com.
