One of the largest in the state takes place in Arlington Heights. This year marks the 40th year for the parade and frontier days in the northwest suburb.
The event brings out many politicians and thousands of residents each year.
"It's a beautiful day to celebrate America's independence, freedom, democracy and the American dream coming alive for everybody," said Gov. Bruce Rauner.
"It's a very patriotic pro-military community," said Sen. Mark Kirk. "I wanted to make sure I participated in celebrating our independence as a nation."
Folks put on their marching shoes in Hyde Park as the 24th annual parade took place on 53rd Street.
Everyone got into the spirit. Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle even showed up dressed as "Lady Liberty."
She was joined by live performers and 150 Kenwood High School band members.
There was no shortage of sun or fun out in Hinsdale as the west suburban community gathered for their annual parade celebrating the 4th of July.
The parade included war re-enactment.
The weather cooperated all day to bring out even more people to watch the day's festivities.
