Sones de Mexico Ensemble celebrates 20 years
Chicago's Sones de Mexico Ensemble celebrates 20 years of being the city's foremost performers of Mexican folk music.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago's Sones de Mexico Ensemble celebrates 20 years of being the city's foremost performers of Mexican folk music. The ensemble was founded in 1994 by four Mexican musicians and educators in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. To celebrate the anniversary, the ensemble is inviting everyone to a free concert in Millennium Park on Sept. 3. The performance will include songs from the group's twice-Grammy-nominated "Esta Tierra Es Tuya."

Juan Dies, co-founder/director, and Rene Cardoza, co-founder, both with the Sones de Mexico Ensemble, came into our ABC 7 Eyewitness News studio to tell us how the group came into being and what its mission is.
