Attempt to kill spider starts apartment fire

Efforts to kill a spider caused an apartment fire in Northern California.

Redding firefighters say the residents tried to kill a spider using a torch lighter.

The flaming spider then scurried onto some bedding, setting it on fire.

The fire spread to the walls and ended up causing $11,000 in damage.

Firefighters put the fire out in about 15 minutes.

No one was hurt.
