PLAINFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- This week, we feature Plainfield South High School on ABC7's Friday Flyover, celebrating high school sports!
FAST FACTS
General
-Student population is 2600 in grades 9-12
-Opened in fall of 2001 with approx. 1000 students (frosh/soph only)
-Offers 26 varsity men's and women's sports
-Offers 24 Advanced Placement (AP) courses with 61 AP Scholars and a National Merit semifinalist this Fall.
-Mascot/Name is the Cougars!
-More than 30 clubs and student organizations
Football/Band
-Head football coach and Athletic Director is Ken Bublitz
-Cougars are currently 1-2 with a victory last week over Plainfield East 23-0
-Plainfield South Athletic Teams raise money for several charitable causes during the year: Breast Cancer, Autism, Cancer Awareness, Toys for tots, Coat Drives for the needy.
-The Marching Band includes 190 musicians and color guard
-Band directors are Jerrod Cook and Chris Jamrose
-The half-time show includes songs from the video games Advent Rising and Halo
-Band members play throughout the game and help pump up the team and crowd
-The Marching Band meets every Monday night and Thursday afternoon to rehearse.
