CHICAGO -- The Kansas City Royals acquired shortstop Paul DeJong from the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, the teams announced, adding infield depth to a playoff contender.

Class A pitcher Jarold Rosado will head to the White Sox to complete the deal.

DeJong, 30, has 18 home runs in 102 games for Chicago after signing a one-year, $1.75 million deal last offseason. He has played mainly at shortstop -- a position occupied by Bobby Witt Jr on the Royals -- but recently has seen time at third base.

An eight-year veteran, DeJong has a career .715 OPS having played for St. Louis, Toronto and San Francisco before signing with the White Sox.

DeJong will need to only change dugouts as Chicago is hosting Kansas City in a series this week.

Later Tuesday, the Royals also acquired right-handed reliever Lucas Erceg, 29, from the Oakland Athleticsfor pitchers Mason Barnett and Will Klein, along with outfielder Jared Dickey. Erceg is 2-3 with three saves, a 3.68 ERA in 38 appearances.
