CHICAGO (WLS) -- New cell phone video shows exactly what happened moments after Illinois State Police shot two men Thursday night on Chicago's South Side.

A cab driver flagged down state troopers, who were in the middle of a separate traffic stop near West 77th Street and South Vincennes Avenue in the city's West Chatham neighborhood around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The cab driver told them the two passengers in his backseat refused to pay their fare.

The troopers spoke with the backseat passengers, at which time the troopers say they saw what appeared to be a gun in one of the suspect's pockets. The suspect did not listen to any of the trooper's commands and then pulled out a gun from his pocket, police said.

The suspect was ordered numerous times to drop the gun, which he did not, police said. At that time, one trooper fired his weapon, hitting the suspect holding the gun twice in the lower torso, police said.

Jason Sledge witnessed the shooting.

"We seen the officer in the back seat of the car, talking to one of the guys in the back. They exchanged words. All you heard was, 'Don't move! Don't move!' Then we heard three shots. After that, my mom was driving, she immediately pulled over, and I immediately started filming," Sledge said. "As they were trying to pull the young guy out the back of the window, he laid him down on the ground, on his righthand side. You hear the man clearly saying, 'Someone call 911.'"

The two suspects, ages 23 and 25, were both hurt. One man was shot twice in the lower stomach. The other was shot in the toe. They were taken to Stroger Hospital for treatment. Both are expected to be OK. One man was released into police custody.

The troopers were not hurt. A gun was recovered from the scene, state police said.

The shooting remains under investigation.
