CYPRESS, Texas -- When Matthew and Yvette St. Laurent built their dream house in Cypress, Texas, five years ago, they wanted their backyard pool to be just as unique as their European style castle home.
"We were inspired by our family roots. I am from Italy and my wife is from France," said Matthew. "We wanted our pool to complement our house and have that same European flare to it."
So they recruited help from Master Pool Designer Joe DiPaulo at Stone Mason of Spring. "We saw Joe's work featured in a variety of local Home Design magazines and loved his use of natural stone. And his attention to detail is phenomenal. From the water-caves to the water slide to the Chinese fire towers, everything is so creative, it's truly a work of art."
For the past three decades, DiPaulo has designed more than 800 commercial and residential projects across the nation. DiPaulo specializes in combining futuristic elements with Old World building practices. His signature elements are natural rock pools, spas, waterfalls and gardens while incorporating fire features like flaming urns. He also uses LED lights to accent the stone arbors, outdoor kitchens, custom seating and grottos.
After the 10-month construction was complete, the St. Laurent's admit their backyard oasis quickly became the most popular hangout in the neighborhood for their three teenagers and their high school friends.
"Pool parties, prom, homecoming, you name it," Matthew said. It's also been great as a backdrop for family wedding showers and holiday gatherings. Family is important to us, so we love having a place where everyone can come together."
The St. Laurent family says it's like having a vacation resort and tropical paradise in their own backyard.
"Every day is a staycation for us. It's our piece of heaven," said Matthew.
