ComEd Iceboxy Derby
The 2016 ComEd Icebox Derby will be held Sat., Aug. 13 in the parking lot of the Field Museum in Chicago.

Did you know that only 24 percent of jobs in the science, technology, engineering and math fields are held by women? Well, ComEd is committed to changing that.

ComEd is challenging young women from the Chicago area and northwest Indiana with the 2016 Icebox Derby.

The derby involves 30 girls, six teams and six recycled refrigerators. It's a twist on the old soap box derby race, but this time it's about getting the girls interested and engaged in the STEM fields with a hands-on challenge. The aim is that the experience encourages them to pursue jobs in STEM fields.

The girls will spend four sessions building the cars, then the race is on.

Cheer on the teams at the 3rd annual Icebox Derby!
