CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Alley Chicago is closing its Belmont store after almost four decades in Lakeview.
The Alley will close in January 2016, according to a statement from the company. Owner Mark Thomas said construction and taxes led to the fall of the rock and roll clothing store, which catered to "bikers, punks, goths, rockers and all alternative lifestyles."
The sister store, Taboo Tabou, a fantasy, fashion and sex store, will move to another location within Lakeview. Meanwhile, Thomas plans to open a new venture, The Alley 1776, in Avondale/Logan Square. They Alley 1776 will have classic Alley merchandise, a piercing studio, coffee shop and bar.
