Metra service restored on 3 lines after derailment
Metra service was restored to the Milwaukee District North, Milwaukee District West and North Central lines.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Metra service was restored to the Milwaukee District North, Milwaukee District West and North Central lines after crews worked through the night to fix tracks after a train derailed.

Passengers should expect some delays during the Tuesday morning commute. Metra officials said there are slow zones with speed restrictions in place on all three lines.

Riders should visit Metra's website or follow @Metra on Twitter for the latest service updates.

Outbound North Central Service train #107 derailed near West Wabansia and North Hamlin avenues in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood during the Monday afternoon rush.

The derailment happened on top of the switch where the Milwaukee West and Milwaukee North lines separate. Luckily, the train was traveling slowly and no one was hurt. Riders saw extensive delays on the North Central, MD-North and MD-West lines Monday afternoon.

Cranes moved the train off the switch and back onto the tracks overnight. Metra brought in heavy equipment to clear the train from the tracks. Service was restored to all three north suburban lines as of 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Commuters at the stop on Western Avenue were relieved trains were running again Tuesday morning.

"Today I decided to bring my bike because I didn't know if it was going to be delayed. If it was, I was going to ride to the Blue Line and get take that long route. But before I got here, I heard that it was back open. So that's a good thing," said Micheal Ward, a Metra rider.
