Police: UIC student forced into car by 3 men twice

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The UIC campus is on alert after police say a woman was forced into a car, driven to a bank and, later, a gas station in an attempted mugging on Monday. Bizarrely, police say almost the same incident happened again to the woman on Tuesday.

A UIC student told Chicago police that at approximately 11 a.m. on Monday, November 7, she was approached by three men displaying a gun and forced into their vehicle near 900 South Halsted Street.

Police say the student was driven to her bank and the men unsuccessfully attempted to use her debit card. The men then drove to a gas station near West 18th Street and South Ruble Street and tried to use the woman's debit card to buy gas. Police say this was also unsuccessful.

The offenders then dropped the woman off, unharmed, near Halsted Street and Roosevelt Road.

According to police, the woman saw the three men again on Tuesday near the 1000 block of South Halsted Street. Investigators say she was forced into the vehicle again and taken back to her bank where the men unsuccessfully tried to use her debit card.

The men drove the female student to the same intersection near Halsted and Roosevelt and released her.

Police say the three men are between approximately 17 and 21 years old.
