Illinois unclaimed property auction underway

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- Thousands of rare items like jewelry and coins are up for auction this week by the Illinois Treasurer's office.

More than 12,000 unclaimed items are up for grabs, valued at more than $45,000. The auction runs through Friday.

The Illinois Treasurer's office is the guardian of unclaimed property found in lost bank accounts or safe deposit boxes.
