CHICAGO -- It's the time of year to spread holiday cheer and help those in need. The ABC 7 Holiday Toy Drive presented by IHOP kicks off on Veterans Day.
Through Dec. 13, WCL is encouraging viewers to stop by a local IHOP to donate a new, unwrapped toy. Bins will be prominently displayed to take donations, which go to Toys for Tots. Sargent Johnny Garcia stopped by WCL to explain what each donation means to a child in need.
People who donate toys will receive a $5 coupon from IHOP to use in January at participating locations.
The toy drive kicks off on Veterans Day because IHOP wants to salute and thank all active and retired service men and women by offering them a free short stack of their "Red, White & Blue" pancakes when they show a valid military ID.
This offer is from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Nov. 11, 2015. Valid identification includes U.S. Uniform Services ID Card, US Uniform Services Retired ID Card, Current Leave and Earning Statement, Veteran's Organization Card, Photograph in Uniform, Citation or Commendation, or Military Dog Tags.
