HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) -- School City of Hammond Superintendent Walter Watkins, 67, is now in serious condition after being beaten during a home invasion last week.
Watkins suffered extensive head injuries and a fractured jaw in the attack on the night of Monday, July 1. Neighbors say he was attacked after the power went out during a storm. His vehicle was also stolen.
The School Board is meeting Tuesday night to name an interim superintendent until he fully recovers. No arrests have been made.
