WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) -- One person was injured in an alleged gang-related shooting that occurred in north suburban Waukegan, police said.

Hector Martinez, 18, and Marco Mendoza, 22, were charged in connection with the incident, which occurred in the 500-block of 2nd Street on Monday, police said.

Alleged members of a gang were standing in the 900-block of North Avenue when a rival gang drove past and began an altercation, police said. Subjects standing then got in a car and followed the other car to the 500-block of 2nd Street, police said, where the original car subjects opened fire at the following car.

A victim in the following car was shot in the leg and the driver lost control of the vehicle, crashing it into a parked car, police said. The victim has non-life threatening injuries.

Police recovered 60 grams of cannabis and seized over $3,000 after searching the residence in the 500-block of 2nd Street, and also arrested and charged Nancy Sanchez, 20, with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, police said.

Both the shooting victim and driver in the second car are documented gang members, police said. All three are in Lake County Jail; Martinez is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 5, while Mendoza and Sanchez are scheduled to appear in court Sept. 11.
