NWS: 4 tornadoes touched down in Illinois Friday

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The National Weather Service has confirmed at least four tornadoes touched down in southern and southeastern Illinois on Friday.



One tornado touched down three miles south of Sidney at about 6:33 p.m. and traveled to one mile southeast of Homer in Champaign County, Ill., the NWS said. Two tornadoes were reported in Vermilion County, one two miles southwest of Bismark at 6:39 p.m. and one two miles northwest of Catlin at 7:22 p.m. A brief tornado touched down two miles south of Casey in Clark County at 6:46 p.m.



The tornadoes were mostly over open land but with some damage reported in Homer, Ill., southeast of Champaign.



The Champaign County Sheriff's Office confirmed a tornado destroyed two residences and a corn crib. No injuries have been reported.

The NWS will conduct surveys of the damage Saturday to assess damage and determine the intensity levels of the tornadoes.



The same storm system dumped rain in Northwest Indiana, where a flash flood warning was in place until 10 p.m.
