HOUSTON -- Katherine Seals, 28, already had a court record. She was on probation for assault of a family member three years ago. Now, she's charged with killing her husband.
Last month, on December 4th, Justin Campbell was driving Seals to take a drug test, as a term of her probation. According to a court affidavit, Seals later told an investigator Campbell accused her of cheating on him.
The argument between the pair, according to her statement, became violent. "She stated he grabbed her by the back of the hair and began pushing her head into the passenger door glass." It noted that she had no bruising.
Just a few blocks from the building where the drug test was to be administered, Campbell turned into a Burger King parking lot next to the South Freeway. He got out of the car and began walking across Holcombe Blvd.
The court document states Seals got into the driver's seat, drove out of the parking lot and around a median, and tried to catch him as he was running. "She doesn't know if she pressed the gas or the brake but before she knew it, Justin was on the window," reads the officer's statement.
She drove off, but when she saw him lying on the concrete, "she panicked and left," later telling a friend, "I was mad at the way he looked at me and I smashed the gas."
Campbell died weeks later, on December 20, at Ben Taub Hospital.
Seals' bond has been set a $500,000 on both the probation violation, and now, a murder charge. She remains in the Harris County Jail.
