Only 100 of the 288 spellers will make it into the quarterfinals of the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee. The quarterfinalists will be selected based on their performances in a preliminary oral round, which will be held Thursday, and written test taken earlier.

The semi finals begin at 10 a.m. on Friday. ESPN will carry the event.

The final airs on ABC7 Friday at 7 p.m.
