New images released in Streamwood armed robbery, killing

March 4, 2014 (STREAMWOOD, Ill.)

The 24-year-old clerk had emigrated to the United States from India just two years before he was killed at a Streamwood gas station. Police say that despite there being cameras inside the gas station, the killer was masked when he committed the crime. Even so, police say they believe someone will recognize the killer.

"I think we're just a phone call away from solving the crime," said Chief James Keegan, Streamwood Police Department.

Hooded and dressed all in black, there is no way to tell whose face lies behind the mask, but Streamwood police said Tuesday that they hope in releasing these few seconds of surveillance video, someone will recognize the man who nearly a year ago stabbed and killed 24-year old Anandkumar Jaiswal while he worked the overnight shift at a Thornton's gas station in Streamwood.

"I think someone out there is going to recognize that walk, his mannerisms, his gait. Everyone knows a loved one, or a neighbor, or an associates walk," said Chief Keegan.

The images released Tuesday don't show the crime itself. Rather, they depict the suspect walking around inside the store, at different moments before and after the stabbing.

"We think with the right lead and the right person out there viewing the footage, we are hopeful that person comes forward and that person I talked about does the right thing and makes that phone call to us," said Chief Keegan.

There is a $27,000 reward for anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest. Most of the money was put up by Thornton's, which released a statement that says in part that they remain hopeful that someone will be brought to justice for this crime.
