I-57 lanes reopen after pedestrian fatally struck on South Side: ISP
A pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle Sunday on I-57 near 99th Street in Washington Heights on Chicago's South Side, Illinois State Police said.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A person was hit and killed by a vehicle Sunday afternoon on an interstate on Chicago's South Side.

The crash happened around 2:17 p.m. on I-57 near West 99th Street, Illinois State Police.

A pedestrian on the intersate was hit by a vehicle at the location. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The person's age, gender and identity were not immediately known.

All northbound lanes appeared to be closed near the crash site. ABC7 has reached out to ISP about when the lanes would reopen.

Traffic appeared to be backed up in the northbound lanes of I-57 near West 99th Street down to West 119th Street.

No further information about the crash was available.

State police continue to investigate.
