Two people were shot at Pilcher Park in the south suburbs on Thursday, according to Joliet police.

JOLIET, Ill. (WLS) -- Two people were shot in the south suburbs on Thursday, according to police.

Joliet police said two people were shot at Pilcher Park. Police said they are stable.

The shooting happened around 1 p.m. and stemmed from an argument between multiple people in the park, police said.

A 24-year-old Joliet man was found at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds, including a gunshot wound the head. A handgun was recovered near the man, police said.

He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said. He was later airlifted to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Police later discovered a dark-colored sedan had fled Pilcher Park after the shooting and went to Silver Cross Hospital. The sedan crashed into a security vehicle upon arrival at the hospital, police said.

The 46-year-old male driver of the sedan had multiple gunshot wounds to the legs and was treated the hospital. Multiple firearms were found inside the vehicle, police said. The man is also from Joliet.

Information about any criminal charges being filed was not immediately available.

Pilcher Park roads were closed for the remainder of the day as police continue to investigate, according to authorities.
