Woman shoots man on CTA Red Line train, police say
A woman is in custody after police said she spat and shot at a man on the Red Line on Wednesday morning.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A shooting on a CTA Red Line train halted service on the city's North Side on Wednesday morning.

The CTA first reported a disturbance at 8:46 a.m. on a northbound Red Line train between the Bryn Mawr and Thorndale station.

A woman, 23, approached a man while on the Red Line train and started to argue, according to police.

The woman then allegedly spat at the 33-year-old man and fired a weapon.

The victim was shot in the shoulder, according to Chicago police.

CFD Paramedics responded to the CTA Red Line Thorndale Station to give the victim medical attention.

The woman was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered, according to police.

At last check the victim was taken to the hospital and was expected to be okay.

Trains were halted near Argyle and Broadway for about one hour, according to the transit agency.

CTA said Red Line trains resumed making stops at Thorndale at 9:53 a.m.

Shuttle buses were requested to provide connecting service through the affected area.

48th Ward Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth added that there was also unrelated heavy police presence near Goudy Elementary for an outdoor CPD roll call this morning.

Originally the CTA said the incident happened on a train departing from the Argyle station.
