CHICAGO (WLS) -- On New Year's Eve, champagne is usually the go-to drink to toast at midnight. But why not have fun and make drinks that even designated drivers can enjoy, or that keep you awake for an all-night party?
Brian Sturgulewski, beverage director at Bordel Chicago, a cabaret and craft cocktail bar, came into our ABC 7 Eyewitness News studio to show us a few fun recipes.
Brian Sturgulewski's recipes:
1. Boothby cocktail
Ingredients:
1.5 oz. bourbon
1.5 oz. sweet vermouth
2 dashes bitters
Top with a splash of champagne
Garnish with an orange peel
Preparation:
Combine the bourbon, vermouth and bitters in a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice. Stir until the shaker is frosty on the outside.
Strain into the chilled glass, top with the champagne or sparkling wine and garnish with the orange twist.
2. French 75
Ingredients:
1 oz. cognac
.5 oz. lemon juice
2 bar spoons caster sugar
A splash of champagne
1 lemon peel
Preparation:
Shake well with cracked ice in a chilled cocktail shaker then strain into a glass. Top off with champagne and garnish with a lemon peel.
3. (Non-alcoholic) Chai tea cider
Ingredients:
1 egg white
1 oz. chai tea brown sugar syrup
1 oz. lemon juice
A splash of apple cider
Preparation:
Shake, strain into a cocktail glass and top off with sparkling apple cider.
4. Coffee daiquiri
This recipe will keep you awake until midnight.
Ingredients:
2 oz. house blend of rum
1 oz. fresh lime
3 bar spoons coffee bean-scented caster sugar
Preparation:
Shake all of the ingredients in a shaker and garnish with a coffee bean.
